Q: Why laser instead of traditional antifungal medications? A: Laser treatment is showing to be more effective in clearing a nail infected with fungus. There are no blood tests required and no potential negative side effects like liver damage, as there are with the pills.
Q: Does the procedure hurt? A: No pain is involved with the laser treatment. Patients relate a warming sensation. There is no recovery time.
Q: How many treatments will I need? A: The Cutera Laser Genesis generally requires one treatment lasting approximately 20 minutes.
Q: Do you only treat the "bad" nails? A: All toenails are treated equally during the laser session in case non-active fungal spores are present in the "normal" nails. This is the most thorough treatment and helps prevent recurrence.
Q: What results should I expect from the treatment? A: The nails are not instantly clear from the laser treatment. Starting at about the 3 month mark you will see the new nail growth visibly clear of fungus. On average, toenails take 6-9 months to grow out from the cuticle to tip. A complimentary follow up visit is scheduled 6 months post-laser treatment.
Q: Will the fungus return? A: The fungus in the nail is destroyed with the laser. Each toe gets 4 thorough passes during the treatment. Every effort is made to eliminate recurrence. Due to environmental factors, like with everything else, the possibility of reinfection exists. Mancherian provides education to each patient to reduce the possibility of recurrence.
Q: How much does the laser treatment cost? A: The initial treatment cost is at $500. The total cost to you depends on the number of treatments necessary prior to the laser treatment. Mancherian makes the treatment decisions with each patient at the time of consultation.
Q: Is the consultation complimentary? A: The price of a consultation is $90 which is rolled into the treatment fee if you decide to proceed with the laser treatment. PPO Insurances may cover the consultation. Otherwise, alternate treatment options are given to you during the consultation and you will have a strategy planned for you by Dr. Mancherian which is included in the consultation fee.
Q: What are my payment options? A: We accept all major credit cards and cash. This procedure is not currently covered by any insurance plans. Medical IRAs, HSAa or Flex Spending Accounts may qualify. You must check with your specific plan. In-house payment plans may be accepted. Please contact the office for specific details at 323-937-6903.
